"Award Winning" tag

Is there a reason we don't have an "award winning" tag at the song level? It's fairly common for awards to be given out for the song itself in addition to specific performances of a particular song.

OM... Was going to just leave to others, but since no one else seems to be willing to have the courtesy to reply....

My first thought is that we have too many tags as it is. Pretty soon the pages will be filled with tags making them near useless for the stated goal of filtering a large batch of covers.

My second thought is what counts as "award winning"? We would likely have to create a list of awards that are deemed prestigious enough to justify a tag (e.g. Grammy vs. Bubba's Songs of the Year). Similar to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame vs. some local music hall of fame.

Also does an award for mixing, editing, etc. count?

Why just the song level? There are awards for albums and artists as well.

No expert, but my understanding is that the Grammy is international while the Brit and Juno are limited to a nationality (UK and Canada respectively). Should these restrictions affect tag-worthiness?

Taking all of that into account, I can only see allowing an "award winning" tag for a Grammy, Oscar, Tony, etc. won in one or more of an agreed upon group categories.

As far as the existing tag goes, I just count the major awards (Billboard, Juno, Dove, Grammy, etc.)

So there's already an "award winning" tag. Ever read the back of a book or movie poster? Seems like every thing is award winning somewhere by someone.

This tag is begging for constraints. Wonder if it can be automated by importing data from official websites?

Probably best to limit to international awards + whatever is most important in non-English speaking nations. Brit and Juno would be good, as well (perhaps with a comment explaining the awards significance).

As far as comments go, I would give it a week before worrying about lack of responses.

On a related note, perhaps a "Big in Japan" tag... Smile

I wouldn't say non-English speaking nations, but rather "non-Western"....

Again, the danger becomes were to draw the line. It seems very common for sub-cultures and genres to create there own rewards. For instance the SiFi community always think their favorite films get overlooked so they created their own rewards.

I can't remember, can any user tag? Have to be registered? Only CCs and editors? I just see a lot of pandelirium on the horizon with this one....

Non-Western works. I'm at a loss to figure out how to limit this tag.

BTW, my computer got fried in a power surge. It's going to take me a week or two to get back on track. I've tried editing from my laptop, its too difficult without my data and bookmarks.

Over ten days since the original post and no one else has any thoughts on this matter?

a) What constraints should there be (if any) and how to enforce them?

b) Who should have the authority to apply this tag?

I we can come to an agreement on which awards to consider, CCs ought to be able to add the tag.

you want an opinion...tags is the last thing you should be worried about....here's a thought...

Fix the main SHS page..it just looks like we are a Youtube promotion.

It tells nothing about what we are trying to accomplish here.

Tag that.

You're barking in the wrong thread: https://secondhandsongs.com/topic/75404

..., which should have been titled "Homepage Announcement".

Clearly Management had made its decision and seemingly ignored all constructive criticism and other concerns. Seems like a dead issue for the foreseeable future, so why waste efforts there? Who knows if any effect on traffic can even be measured or reasonably estimated. I will say that I used to look at some of the recent activity and other info on the home page, but now I can't click away fast enough.

On the other hand, getting a tag feature correct at the start can eliminate the need to clean-up afterwards (e.g. deleting improper tags).

You asked for an opinion and I gave one. Don't ask, if don't you want to hear it.

Now you know why no one speaks up. This should be a dead issue also.

I asked for thoughts on the "award winning" tag, specifically the issues that arose in this thread, I got your opinion on a completely different matter until the 2nd response (apathy, fair enough).

I suppose the answer is any award if tag eligible. Until something develops and if I see some reward for a song and I'm so inclined, I'll just tag.

I have no wish for an "award winning" tag, but if some folks like it, fine. I'm only opposed to controversial tags, the ones that could generate error reports, and we have a few of them already.

Currently just 5 performances have been tagged award-winning:

Question: is everyone ok with these so far?
