Original Release (Rebuttable Presumption)

Some groundwork to start....

When deciding between different candidates for an original release, I personally default to an artist's own release over various artists compilations. I also prefer albums over EPs, EPs over singles. For my notes, I will often prefer (e.g.) a later album over an earlier lead single, but I do not treat as errors for SHS purposes.

From experience, SHS strongly prefers an artist's own releases over various artists compilations; however, can and (if so) how can this preference be rebutted?

Are there general rules of rebuttal that apply for all/most of SHS preferences?
