Hey,

The first FAQs on this page link to pages that generate errors/have outdated links:

Would it be possible to update them?

Thanks.

I see you did not include a link to the file 'cross-referenced'. Does that exist somewhere?

I removed it because that page is currently not public, so no point in linking to it Smile

That page counts the number of cross references per entity type & website. E.g. we have over 100k references to discogs releases and 37k references to musicbrainz artists. These cross references are currently for internal usage only.

Yes is currently hidden. Most of the Musicbrainz links are derived from the Million Song Dataset (which includes a SHS dataset) that links us Musicbrainz over The Echo Nest. Sadly, it seems that the matching by the folks at Columbia was in large part automated and probably contains more errors than we would like. That's part of the reason why all external links are hidden to the public.

Well, MB actively links to SHS. It shouldn't be very hard to use that actual data to insert links. Or use the community to link back.

Maybe some bot function would work for that.

The reason I say this, is that MB is a great source for occurences of tracks/recordings and works and scans of liners/booklets of course. Both SHS and MB could benefit from open exposure to both the datasets.

MusicBrainz doesn't seem very popular with our editors: only 1k links to MB were entered manually, compared to 120k links to Discogs.

I see the added value of cross-referencing with other databases, certainly with the information is openly accessible. We already have a bot that does so for PRO databases, but not for discography databases.

As for exposing our external links, we first have to sort out some of the quality issues due to some automated imports and then have a strategy on what to show exactly.

In the end it is obviously also a question of setting priorities. There's only a limited amount of time available.
