Hoping to find the Stan Webb/Chicken Shack experts on the site. In 1969 they released a great version of "I'd Rather Go Blind" w/ Christine Perfect (McVie) singing lead. That's on the site. But after she left they still continued to perform it with Stan Webb on vocals - and IMO he's done some of the definitive versions of "I'd Rather Go Blind". We didn't have his vocal version on the site. I'm not certain which of his lead singer versions was "first" and was hoping someone might know his works. I found a version on a German album called 39 Bars from 1986 that was already on the site (and there was a YouTube video) so I just posted it to the Covers. I found some versions from 1982 but they were re-issues w/ Christene's vocals. The 1980 In the Can compilation I believe just re-issued Christene's vocal version as well.

Just listen to this live version from 2004 (guy still had it 35 years later):

Thx Mark.

But Mark, SHS only would accept another Chicken Sack version of the work if announced like Chicken Shack feat. Stan Webb on the record label or CD box. There are so many examples of outfits recycling their hits in ever-changing line-ups and we do not see these as separate performances...................

What do you say?

I understand that. Most of their later work was credited differently as a performer so they wouldn't be identical. I had just hoped by posting that I'd find my way to someone on our site who was an expert in the band. Anyway, I submitted a 2nd version of the song credited to Stan Webb's Chicken Shack (which is "different" than Chicken Shack) that Stan sang the vocals on. Hopefully I captured the earliest version by that incarnation of the group.
