I've wrestled with depression from a very young age. It's always felt like a dark cloud hovering above my head, ready to rain at any second. There was a night last week when that raincloud poured & I completely fell apart. This song came to mind & when I listened to it, it was like an umbrella of hope appeared above my head. To me, it isn't saying "smile" like, "hey crybaby, get over it" but rather, it's saying, "somehow... even if it's the hardest thing to do... even if it feels like things will never get better, smile." This song is bittersweet. To me, it's all about choosing to at least try to see the bright side. It's about choosing not to give up. The day after my breakdown, when I chose to take a deep breath & keep moving forward, amazing things started happening. So, from one survivor to another, don't give up. Choose to smile through the "ugly", because there will be beauty on the other side.
