Luther's Cradle Hymn written by James Murray, [Unknown]
- Gabriel changed the tune, added one stanza and credited the whole text to Martin Luther.
The third stanza ("Be near me, Lord Jesus...") is commonly attributed to Dr. John MacFarland; however, his contribution is highly questionable, as his name started to be linked to the song in 1904, 12 years after its first appearance.
