Mason's tune is called "Antioch." The tune has some notes in common with Handel's Messiah (specifically the chorus "Lift up ye heads, o ye gates" and the arioso "Comfort ye my people"). For this reason, it has been described as "arranged from Handel". Nowadays, Handel's scholars seem to agree that the resemblance is accidental.
The most famous version of the carol (and the fourth revision of the "Antioch" tune) was first published in "The National Psalmist (Boston, 1848)" as "Joy to the World! The Lord Is Come!" - Licensing
