American folksong of relatively recent origin first collected in 1909, and known under many different names including "The Gambler", "Roaming Gambler", "Gambling Man", and "Roving Soldier". It is number 498 in the Roud Folk Music Index.
The first verse goes as follows:
I am a roving gambler I gambled all around
