Folk song and cowboy music standard of uncertain origins. Famously known today as Red River Valley, but it was originally known as Bright Sherman Valley. The initial August 1925 recordings were by Carl T. Sprague as "Cowboy Love Song" and then by brothers, Bascom Lamar and Blackwell Lunsford as "Sherman Valley. It's also recorded as "Bright Mohawk Valley". The title words for the name of the valley are just swapped, but the song lyrics and tune are the same for all.

[Verse One]
From this valley they say you are going.
We will miss your bright eyes and sweet smile,
For they say you are taking the sunshine
That has brightened our pathway a while.
