- Irish drinking song that originated among sailors and moved to the pubs. (Grog was a mixture of rum and water.) The song tells the story of a sailor who spends all his money and sells his possessions for money to obtain alcohol and smokes. It is collected in the Roud Folk Song Index as number 475. It has been collected as "Across the Western Ocean" in Australia and is known elsewhere under a variety of names, including "Here's to the Grog". The first known printed version of this song was collected by Cecil Sharpe and published in 1904 as "My Jolly, Jolly Tar".
