This song was written by Novello at the urging of his mother for a patriotic song given England's participation in World War I. The lyrics were written by American Ford, who had been living in England for some time when war broke out.
It was initially published in October 1914 as 'Till the Boys Come Home". A new edition issued in 1915 entitled the work "Keep the Home-Fires Burning" with "'Till the Boys Come Home" shown parenthetically on a second line in much smaller print. The work is best known as "Keep the Home Fires Burning". The song was extremely popular in the United Kingdom.
