"White House Blues" is a topical song composed of elements of the words and music of many other songs. Charlie Poole recorded this song in 1926. The original 78 rpm release did not provide writer/composer credits but he and fellow member of the North Carolina Ramblers, Norman Woodlieff, later copyrighted the song. However, evidence suggests that their version was performed by other artists years before 1926 and they did not write it.
