Tribute to Pattie Boyd, at the time of the writing George Harrison's wife, and Eric Clapton's future wife.
The two parts were provided by Eric Clapton (vocal part) and Jim Gordon [US1] (instrumental) respectively and both equally registered as songwriters.
Later, Rita Coolidge claimed she co-wrote the piano-laced coda at the end of "Layla" together with drummer Jim Gordon, titled it "Time (Don't Let the World Get in Our Way)" and recorded a demo, which she played it to Eric Clapton during a recording session for his first solo album. According to her, she left the demo on the piano hoping Clapton would use it and a year later was stunned to hear it was added to Layla without her being credited.
Three years after Layla came out, a version of Time was released by Booker T. Jones & Priscilla Jones : Time.
