Popular fiddle tune seemingly originating in the uplands of the American south. It dates back to at least the American Civil War and is known to have been played by Confederate soldiers. “Sally Goodin” was one of the standard tunes in the square dance fiddler’s repertoire, although it also came to be played on banjo and mandolin. There are a number of stories that there was a "Sally Goodin" for whom the song was named. It is collected in the Roud Folk Song Index as 739.
