- Danza, Op. 33 comes from a miniature opera "Escenas Campestres Cubanas". In 1857 Gottschalk composed this mini opera in Matanzas, a town on Cuba sixty kilometers east of Havanna. He was inspired by the Matanzans’ preoccupation with all things dance especially the danzón.
