Song from Die Dreigroschenoper, the original German version of the "Three Penny Opera". The song is sung in the second act by the character Mrs. Peachum. It was deleted from the premiere in 1928, because the actress playing Mrs. Peachum, Rosa Valetti, refused to sing it because of the "immoral" nature of the text. It does, however, seem to have been reinstated for a production in Vienna in 1929 with a less prudish Mrs. Peachum.
