"10 Pièces de genre", Op. 10, is a work for piano with ten pieces ("mélodies") and no. 5 - Elégie - has become a famous work on its own as it was also used as the basis of the "Invocation", which accompanies Electra's pouring of libations on the tomb of Agamemnon in act 2 of the 1876 play "Les Érinnyes" (The Erinyes). for which Jules Massenet wrote an overture, intermezzo, and incidental music. The work was published separately as the "Élégie" for cello and orchestra (Op.10, no.5) as well as the song "O doux printemps d'autrefois" and it is still often performed and recorded.
