- Originally composed for piano and 'invisible' chorus, then recomposed for orchestra, lyrics were added by Robert de Montesquiou. The orchestral version was first performed at the Société des Nouveaux during a so called Concert Lamoureux by an orchestra conducted by Charles Lamoureux himself on November 25, 1888. Three days later, the lyric version premiered at the Société Nationale de Musique.
