Comments: American ballad known since 1840s. It was based on a similar song popular two centuries earlier in Scotland known as "Green Grow the Laurel". Tex Ritter appeared in the stage version and recorded the song. This play, in turn, was adapted and became the classic American musical, "Oklahoma."
