- From "Khovanshchina", Act IV, Scene 1, an opera in five acts by Modest Mussorgsky written between 1872 and 1880 in St. Petersburg. "Dance of the Persian Slaves" was orchestrated by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov with the composer's approval within his lifetime. The opera was unfinished and unperformed when the composer died in 1881. Rimsky-Korsakov further completed, revised and scored it in 1881 and 1882.
