- Witherspoon fashioned a largely "new" set of lyrics for the song (see: editor notes), though keeping some of the most recognizable lines: take a notion/jump in the ocean & church on Sunday/cabaret on Monday. The "buy me a shotgun" stanza is heard already in Mississippi John Hurt's "Nobody's Dirty Business" from 1928.
