- aka "Billy in the Lowground". Old-time, breakdown American fiddle tune with origins dating back to tunes from Ireland and Scotland in the early 18th century. The melody in the American song was in print in the early 19th century. "Low ground" was a term common in the 1800s throughout the American South for flood plain or river bottom.
