Watt's original hymn, “Come, we that love the Lord,” can be found in his Hymns and Spiritual Songs, Book II (1707) in ten, four-line stanzas entitled “Heavenly Joy on Earth.” Gospel hymnist, Robert Lowry, added the "We're marching to Zion, beautiful, beautiful Zion, we're marching upward to Zion, the beautiful city of God" refrain in 1867 and the song thereafter became known as "We're Marching to Zion".
