First written as "Johnny, Johnny, Johnny" for girls band "The Georgettes", but they never recorded it.

According to co-author Ricky Page, the song was cut by another girl group called G. Notes (Sisters Gino) with Eddie Cochran on guitar. Cochran liked the song so much he cut it himself re-titled "Jeanie Jeanie Jeanie". This story suggests the G. Notes version, released on Guyden 2012 in 1959, is older than Cochran's, but no recording date is known.
