- Born in Glasgow, his family immigrated to New Zealand when he was in his early teens, where he ultimately played the local folk circuit before relocating to Australia where he formed the punk folk band, Roaring Jack. Radicalized by the first Gulf War, Hulett became a committed socialist and his own songs reflected his politics. He returned to Glasgow in the late-1990s.
