Comments: Santley started his professional career as an actor and singer on stage. He added writing, choreography, directing and producing -- all of which he had done on stage in the approximately 24 Broadway productions with which he was involved by 1932. Commencing in 1928, he also began directing films. For several years these were mostly shorts, but by 1934, he was regularly directing features. Starting in the 1950s, he also produced and directed for television. Santley was the name of his stepfather.
