Revision

  • A little bit of history
    • In the first years of SecondHandSongs, the database was way more simple than it is now. There were for example no works or performances, just songs. Also, there was no distinction between first performances, recordings or releases. There weren't even languages!
    • At a certain point we decided we needed to upgrade the database, in order to secure its data quality on the long term. New entries automatically fitted the new work/performance structure, but the old ones had to be automatically converted. The works revision was born.
    • On December 30th a second major upgrade was done with the introduction of partial adaptations.
  • Revision checklist for works
    • For works prior to the work/performance upgrade
      • Is there any need for this work? (Remember it was generated automatically)
      • Is capitalising ok?
      • Does the work have a language?
      • Is the work an instrumental? Make sure it doesn't have any credits for lyrics.
      • Are the comments ok? Or do they belong in the a) editor notes b) comment section of a performance of this work?
      • Are the originals set correctly? (Go to Edit Originals)
        • If they think all is ok, click Mark as Revised in the Work Menu on the left.
    • For works prior to the partial adaptation upgrade
      • If it's a full adaptation, you don't need to do anything. Just click on "Mark as Revised"
      • If it's a partial adaptation
        • Select the adaptation type (element, quote or interpolation)
        • Indicate whether the credits are transitive or not
        • Finally, click on "Mark as Revised"
        • Note: All samples currently set as interpolations have to be transformed into partial adaptations.
  • Revision checklist for performances
    • Is the performance linked to a release?
    • Are the comments ok? Or do they belong in the a) editor notes b) comment section of a performance of this work?
  • Revision checklist for artists
    • Check the common name. It should be the name that is used most commonly when referring to the artist. The first name that comes to one's mind.
    • Check the real name. Is it missing?
    • Check the aliases. Are all aliases really aliases for the select artist? If not: Edit Aliases > Move, and provide a list of artists separated by '|' where the alias really belongs too.
    • Check the artist relations. Most relations will need to become of type 'member'. Add comments if you have extra information.
    • Check the list of the songs.
    • See if there are joint performances that should become new artists (e.g. Simon & Garfunkel).
    • See if there are joint performances that are missing an artist. Use Edit Aliases > Move (cfr supra) to fix this.
