Earliest/Original Release Revisited

A follow-up to... since there were no answer provided to the core question therein. Namely, what is the SHS rule regarding the original/earliest known release of a performance:

https://secondhandsongs.com/topic/75570

I recently provided sourced evidence that a single was released over a month earlier than the album currently on site, yet that editor didn't find revising the entry necessary.

Essentially and again, what is the SHS rule regarding the original release of a performance? If an earlier release is discovered, how much earlier does it have to be to justify an error report? One day? One week? One month? One year? Any official release is good enough so don't bother?

It appears that not only are the editors not on the same page regarding earliest release, but not even in the same book. From what I can tell from the submission below, I submitted a single that was released ~12 months before the related album. Since the editor apparently prefers the later album (which was noted in the post), the submission gets downgraded?

Bastien Every time I post an error report regarding a discovered earlier release, I think of this thread. It's now been over 4 months since you asked and I provided an example. Some definitive guidance remains requested....

I reopened and replied in https://secondhandsongs.com/error-report/38448

Your response is an improvement, but:

A) What is the SHS rule/guideline that you are applying?

b) The assigned editor just closed again sans action:

The original release is editor preference? ~1 month is close enough?

For my notes I index to the "primary release" anyway. Why should I notice editors of earlier releases if it's a matter of preference? Should I just ignore these going forward?

Every release the performance is linked to must be the first released within its type, except if it already exists in the database (meaning it's the first release for another performance).

Not a direct answer to my primary questions, but if I read this correctly even a day earlier release should reported as an error.

What is meant by "type"? A single and an album are different types? Cassette, 8-track, CD and vinyl are different types?

Personally, the ultimate goal of SHS should be to provide useful information that site users want regarding cover songs and the applicable originals. Again, this is why I index to "primary" releases over the earliest releases for my notes (i.e. an album over a lead single). Editors should be allowed, if not encouraged, to multi-index based on their discretion in these cases.

Also, it's my understanding that there is also a rule/guideline that once a release is on site, it should be retained on site even if it no longer is an earliest for any performance (unless now an orphan). Shouldn't the guidelines reflect this?
