Thanks for the mock-up Smile Love it Smile

I don't know if it's on purpose or not, but this is exactly what the column TOTAL would have generated:

It was effectively based on that…

Remember, my thought (now suggestion) was to select and order the first default three (3) by most used while reverting to alpha-beta for a full list.

If it's quantified, it's possible.

That would be awesome. Very happy with this collapse, makes our artist pages look a lot cleaner! Thanks Mathieu!

Bastien "I'm sorry would you mind elaborating? What is the problem exactly?"

If I search for "Ipana Troubadours," nothing is displayed except the name "Sam Lanin" with aliases. If I search for "Sam Lanin," I get the normal menus for covers, originals, releases, and so forth. If I display the releases for "Sam Lanin," I find 24 releases by "Ipana Troubadours." These would be invisible to a user who did not know that Ipana Troubadours" was indexed under Sam Lanin, and that the only way to display these is to search via "Sam Lanin" rather than "Ipana Troubadours."

Now try searching for "Casa Loma Orchestra." You will have revealed that this is listed as an alias of "Glen Gray and the Casa Loma Orchestra," but you will also get direct access to the "releases" credited to "Casa Loma Orchestra." How come "Casa Loma Orchestra" is different from "Ipana Troubadours" in this regard?

Further: Enter a "detailed artist search" for "Ipana Troubadours" and nothing is displayed. Enter a "detailed artist search" for "Casa Loma Orchestra" and "Glen Gray and the Casa Loma Orchestra" is displayed.

So, if I don't know that "Ipana Troubadours" is the same as "Sam Lanin" I'll not have an easy time finding them on the site. But if I don't know that "Casa Loma Orchestra" is the same as "Glen Gray and The Casa Loma Orchestra" it's easy to find them on the site.

After further consideration, keeping the top three (3) as they are after pulling up the full list may actually be better. The typical user will likely only click the full list if what they are expecting to find isn't top there, so they would just continue down from #3 anyway.

On a related note, there are far to many languages in the preferred group before getting to the alpha-beta portion. Some of the "lessor" preferred languages are very hard to find.

Currently presentation is different between lambda user and editor (and probably CC)… See example in attachment

As long as artists can be found, no matter of their alias, and the lists are shortended by the next to identical variations, I'm happy.

Collapsing the aliases seems good. Happy with the work to implement VV's suggestion.

... among which the Ipana Troubadours alias:

So you get this:

But you don't get these releases because of the Casa Loma Orchestra alias, but because in these 2 specific cases Casa Loma is part of the release title:

The proof is that Sounds of the Great Bands by Glen Gray and The Casa Loma Orchestra is NOT listed in the search results.

Ticket created: Ticket #3577

Good point. The question is: Do we still need the Hidden aliases-feature, now that we have collapsing aliases?
