Irish ballad about the 1798 Irish Rebellion against the British written as a poem by John Keegan Casey (under the Leo Casey alias) and first published in 1865 in the Irish Nationalist paper, The Nation. "The Rising of the Moon" is sung to an old Irish air "The Wearing of the Green." (There is another 1798 Irish Rebellion song called "The Wearing of the Green" which is also sung to the same tune).
Song starts "Oh then, tell me Sean O'Farrell, tell me why you hurry so?" "Hush, mo bhuachaill, hush and listen," and his cheeks were all aglow".... - Licensing
