American reel dating back to the mid 1700s typically played on the dulcimer. Sometimes performed with simple repetitive children's song type lyrics. There is another old song with children's lyrics called "Hey, Betty Martin" and both presumably have shared origins.
Jean Ritchie's 1962 recording is considered the standard bearer for the lyrical versions. Her performance was accompanied by fiddle, not dulcimer. - Licensing
