- Guitarist, singer, song writer and collector born in North Carolina and raise in Tennessee. In 1928 he began an association with A.P. Carter and the Carter Family. During the next few years he shared with them songs and finger-picking guitar techniques. He went on several song hunting trips with A.P. providing significant additions to the Carter Family repertoire. In the 1960s, after a long absence from performing, he was discovered by Mike Seeger who made several recordings of Riddle
