Comments
Appalachian singer and guitarist from Virginia who won best guitar in the 1935 Galax Old Fiddlers Convention.

In March 1929, Fields Ward (guitar, vocals), Ernest V. Stoneman (using his Justin Winfield pseudonym) (harmonica, vocals), Eck Dunford (fiddle), and Fields' brother, Samson Ward (banjo) assembled to record fourteen sides for Gennett that went unissued on singles. They billed themselves as the Grayson County Railsplitters but the recordings were never issued on singles. They were first issued on an album credited to Fields Ward's Buck Mountain Band, and continue to be reissued with differing band credits. To avoid duplication will assign them to Fields Ward.
