The discogs entry indicates the performance is a "fragment", which I assume means unfinished and incomplete. I am guessing that this eventually led to a recording by Big Star ..., which appears to have been released on:

This seems to be correct, good observation! The track on 'Thank You Friends' appears to be a "fragment" of a recording rather than a complete take. It is 54 seconds long and sounds very much like what can be heard on the attached YouTube track, fading in at ~1:20 and out at ~2:10. Verse and chorus, Chilton's vocal and acoustic guitar plus background vocals.

rbrnb So Leif - can you advise when this track was recorded and how to credit?

I'm not sure; the 'Thank You Friends' booklet does not specify and looking through the biography 'A Man Called Destruction' I don't see a mention of this song, but if it indeed was recorded during the '3rd' sessions it would have been in 1974. I don't own the 'Complete Third' set so I don't know if details are provided there. Since when the track was first issued it was credited to Chilton, and there (to my ears, at least) is no indication that it's not him playing the guitar and doing all the vocals, I would list it as a Chilton track.
