Comments
Nor Va Jak was the name of a label and publishing company owned by Norman Petty in Clovis, New Mexico. The names of Norman, his wife Violet Anne and guitarist Jack Vaughan (a member of the Norman Petty Trio) were used to name the company:
Nor (NORrman)
VA (Violet Anne)
Jak (JAcK)
This small label was instrumental in launching the careers of several major artists.
In 1994 Nor Va Jak released the first album recorded by LeAnn Rimes.
In 1954 Nor Va Jak released "Mood Indigo" by the Norman Petty Trio. The significance of this event is recorded on the historical marker at the Norman Petty studio:
"At thirteen, Norman began cutting records in his fathers filling station. With money earned from the Norman Petty Trio's "Mood Indigo", Petty converted the family grocery store next door into a modern recording studio where he experimented with echo and microphone settings. In 1957, Petty made rock' n'roll history recording Buddy Holly and the Crickets' "That'll Be The Day". The sound influenced a generation, and his techniques are still used today."
