Original title: Nabucodonosor. Opera based on the 1836 play by Auguste Anicet-Bourgeois and Francis Cornue. Both are in turn based on the Biblical story of the persecution and exile of the Jews by the Babylonian king (Italian: Nabucodonosor, English: Nebuchadnezzar).
Nabucco's premiere was on the date above at Teatro alla Scala in Milan.
