User "kop" came up with an interesting problem concerning the song "Child in Time" by Deep Purple.

It is easy to hear that for the song they were inspired by "It's a Beautiful Day" by Bombay Calling. Listen to the song:

Also Ian Gillan admits they were inspired by the song:

On the musical side, there used to be this song 'Bombay Calling' by a band called It's A Beautiful Day. It was fresh and original, when Jon was one day playing it on his keyboard. It sounded good, and we thought we'd play around with it, change it a bit and do something new keeping that as a base. But then, I had never heard the original 'Bombay Calling'.

What do we this? Partial cover? Arguments pro or contra?

Since Jon played it on his keyboard basing himself on "Bobmbay Calling" I'd call it a partial cover.

the first 50 seconds (All the world know that song for this very popular intro of Child in time) it was not covered but is a PLAGIARISM from the same first 50 seconds of Bombay calling that are EXACTLY the same.

I vote for rip-off, not cover. It's not nice to steal someone else's creative product.

Yes, I also vote for a partial cover. It´s the same problem as with "Stairway to heaven" by Led Z. They stole the first seconds from the song "Taurus" by "Spirit" (1968).
