Are all ediors on board with this? Have you checked whether some of them don't want to keep the TODO list private

This proposal has been made to avoid error reports, but making this available to only Managers isn't going to prevent error reports. If someone want to make the note available to all editors then it should be placed into the "Editor Notes".

So NO, I don't agree.

However, if the editor in question decide to retire, then I wouldn't have any objection to make the "TODO" list available to the Managers.

Like Mark_Heyrman I’m not sure to-do lists should be used in this way. In my mind to-do lists are there to note missing covers that an editor wants to capture when they don’t have time to add the cover at the time. To-do lists shouldn’t be there as a way for editors to leave database entries incomplete. Users of our site will not see to-do lists so we should aim to complete entries at the time we add them to the database.

That said, I’ve no problem making to-do lists visible to other editors as long as it’s not an excuse for leaving database entries incomplete. It might be other editors come across a missing cover on another editor’s to-do list and feel inspired to add that cover themselves to help out a fellow editor Smile Plus as Mark_Heyrman adds, this function would be useful for completing the work of editors when they retire. Otherwise all that valuable research could be lost.

I don't use to-do lists to leave the database entries incomplete, it is completely the opposite... I can't spend 24/24h on SHS and when I start creating an entry that I can't fulfill immediately (let's say, I have to go to work), I create a to-do list for later (in the evening back from work) not to forget that I have a picture to add and a circular crop to do...

a) Gentlemen's agreement for no other editor activity until after a week of inactivity by the editor who was clearly working on an artist, release, etc. This means no error reports until after a week from processing/entry.

b) Personal notes get time stamped and become visible after a month.

I agree with this proposal. I often get error reports within a day (even a couple of hours) of making a new entry, for things I was going to complete later, like artist description and photo. For editors who comb through new entries regularly, they might not be able to wait to see if something is completed later so not sure how this would work for them.

b) Personal notes get time stamped and become visible after a month.

This also seems reasonable to me.

A bit sceptic at first, I like this new feature "Personal Notes & TODO list", so thanks (again) for implementing. I don't want to see this "going public", for then it's not personal anymore! Smile

I use it for exactly what it is, I think designed for: collecting song info on future projects, things you encounter while researching, that look interesting, but not to be handled rightaway...

Ah now I see exactly where you're coming from. You want to avoid error reports for entries that are under construction, so to say. I can understand that.

Let's be pragmatic? Add the entry in your to do list and add UNDER CONSTRUCTION in the editor notes. Fore sure any editor that stumbles on a UNDER CONSTRUCTION note will react differently if it's from 1 day ago or 1 month ago. However, without the note it's fair game 😅

Making Personal Notes semi-public is quite drastic with other consequences, so doesn't seem like the ideal solution.

1. They are personal so you can do what you want with them and you don't factor in that somebody might/will read them. You should be able to count on that.

2. The last thing we want is have editors write stuff in the Personal Notes hoping somebody else will solve or complete an entry. That's creating an additional workflow, for sure we should avoid that.

Well said.
