Guidelines / Performances / Performer

Follow the release

  • To set the artist alias, follow the release as close as possible
    • With the release is meant: the tracklist on the back or on the label
    • With the release is not meant: information from the liner notes. When deemed relevant add them in the public comments.
  • Always choose the artist who's officially credited, even when it's incorrect. Use the comment box to explain if necessary.

Dubbed singing voices in movies

Add a joint performer following the format ''ArtistLipSyncing [dubbed by ArtistDubbing]''

Example: My Funny Valentine by Kim Novak [dubbed by Trudy Erwin]

Duets

  • Only credit both artists if they are explicitly credited on the release. If one is omitted, and you think this information to be relevant, you can always use the comment box.

Performances originating from Visual performances

  • Case 1: The lead performers don't form a group. The performer name is the real name of the performers.
  • Case 2: The performers form a group.
    • Example of a group: Glee Cast.
    • 2a The release attributes the performance to the group or to performers member of that group. Then the performer name is the name of the group, with mentioning the singled out members. This is an exception to the general "Follow the release as possible"-rule.
    • 2b The release attributes the performance to the group and singles out the lead performers, who are not a member of the group. Then the performer name is a joint performer consisting of the group and the lead performers.

Collective performers with a generic name

  • Scope: Musicals, Movies
  • Examples: Ensemble, Company, Cast
  • The performer name should be the generic name as listed + the name of the musical in square brackets

Example: Company [Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well and Living in Paris]

  • Exception: When the name of the musical appears in the generic name itself, then just keep it that way.

Example: The Cast of Jesus Christ Superstar

  • When the performers are unlisted (There is no official document that lists the performer), apply the same guideline, but choose a generic name.

Example: Dream Dancing by Orchestra [You'll Never Get Rich]

  • Make the individual artists member of the collective performer (If these artists already exist in the SHS database).
  • Note: Performers in the format of "ArtistA and CollectivePerformer" are not subject to this guidelines. They should be set as an artist alias of ArtistA

Example: "Alice Whitfield and Company" is an artist alias of "Alice Whitfield".

  • Performances linked to multiple releases, using different performer names: Choose the performer name used on the earliest release.
