If you do a song search on example: his orchestra, there are several artists with those words in it.

There are about as much artists with his Orchestra as His Orchestra and his orchestra.

What are the rules on capitals here?

Interesting question.

We don't have a specific rule for this yet. Generally, we add what's on the cover of the medium.

Filip has a point, let's make a rule. What would make most sense?

Because the "his" is part of the artist/group name it should be capitalised together with the other parts of the name I think.

I can't find a reason to not capitalise them, except if you see the "his" as some kind of constructor between 2 artist name, together with "and":

Fred And His Playboys

artist1 constructor artist2

But this looks more complicated and will probably give us more issues than my first sentence, so I propose to keep it simple and always capitalise the full artist name (except if the official name is explicitly different, like dEUS).

First I tought it should be capitalised, but on the other hand if you capitlise 'his' in english, you're talking about God.

Louis Armstrong and his orchestra

That's more for general usage and not necessarily titles. Used for royalty, major religious figures, also.

I would prefer the capitalised "His" here. SHS now already capitaiises "The" used in the same situation in titles, no?

These artists were already in the database, and are still to be revised

  • REMINDER*

I would go for the capital.

But make up your minds.

The 'also performs as' on artists like this one looks a bit ridiculous: Jimmy Dorsey

Sometimes it is tough to get a consensus. Maybe if we were all Swiss . . . Wink Plus the revision of artists will continue for some time.

I would go for the capitalising on the basis that Jimmy Dorsey and His Orchestra is a proper name.

Okay, then similar situations:

Celine Dion (W)(w)ith Andrea Bocelli

Flaco Jimenez (F)(f)eaturing Los Lobos

Currently, editors generally don't capitalise with or featuring (or feat. or ft.), or vs.

Are these proper names (and therefore capitalised) or just phrases (not capitalised)?

If we were Swiss every editor would be a canton, which is pretty much how it is now... Grin

Anyway, I thought we already decided to capitalize His and Her. But, as Denis said, some artist need to be revised.
