- From the "Steffinsche Sammlung", poems by Bertolt Brecht collected by the actress and writer Margarete Steffin (1908-1941), co-worker and lover of Brecht. Most of the poems in this collection were written in Denmark, Sweden and Finland and some of them were put to music by Hanns Eisler in the "Hollywooder Liederbuch" (Hollywood Songbook), a collection of "Kunstlieder", composed by Hanns Eisler between May 1942 and December 1943 while living in exile in Santa Monica near Hollywood in California.
