A broadside ballad discovered by Nic Jones in the Harkness Collection, Preston, Lancashire in the north of England. The Harkness Collection is named after John Harkness, who was a printer from Preston who printed many broadsides. This song is V17408 in the Roud Folk Song Index.
A broadside or broadsheet was a single sheet of paper printed on one side and was a common means of distributing songs, news and propaganda in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, dying out completely by the early twentieth. Broadsides usually only carried song lyrics, sometimes suggesting a tune by name only. - Licensing
