- Old-Time, breakdown fiddle tune dating back to at least the 1860s (and likely the 1830s). "The Galveston [Texas] Daily News" (Sept. 19, 1865) (pretty far from Georgia) mentions that one of Pres. Andrew Johnson's freedmen was noted for playing "the lively reel commonly known as 'Hell broke loose in Georgia' ". Fiddlin' John Carson's July 1, 1925 recording appears to have been the first.
