[Roud 494; Ballad Index SKE74; trad.] English traditional that is now considered a nursery rhyme. The earliest record of the rhyme is in Tommy Thumb's Pretty Song Book (1744), which noted only the first four verses. The extended version wasn't printed unticl circa 1770.
