Originally written as a poem, "Pikes Peak" in 1893 and rewritten by Bates herself in 1904 and 1913. First published in the Fourth of July edition of the church periodical The Congregationalist in 1895 as "America".
It is not only sung on the melody of Materna, but also on other melodies. The melody of Materna is just the most frequently used. - Licensing
