- Born in Princeton, New Jersey of an American father and German mother, Hopkins grew up in Germany. He is a swing jazz pianist who is heavily influenced by stride pianists. Hopkins also plays alto saxophone in the jazz group Echoes of Swing. Since 2005, Hopkins has been a jazz instructor at the Cologne Academy of Music.
