American film directed by Henry Levin and George Pal. The latter was the producer and also in charge of the stop motion animation. The movie was one of the highest-grossing of 1962. It won one Oscar and was nominated for three additional Academy Awards. Several prominent actors — including Laurence Harvey, Claire Bloom, Karlheinz Böhm, Walter Slezak, Barbara Eden and Oskar Homolka — are in the film.
The movie officially opened on August 8, 1962, but it previewed on July 14, 1962, at 'The Cooper Theater' in Denver, a spherical 800-seat auditorium, the first in the world built specifically to accommodate Cinerama films.
