Also in France The Beatles were immensely popular especially after their 18 performances at the famous "L'Olympia" theatre in January 1964. Many French artists covered their songs with French lyrics, famous artists like Richard Anthony, Claude Fran├žois, Hugues Aufray, Johnny Hallyday and even good-old Maurice Chevalier, but also quite a number of rather obscure ones.

From 2005 onwards five CDs have been released all titled La France et Les Beatles giving more than 100 covers recorded in the 1960s and 1970s a new life.

All tracks on these five albums are now on the SHS site and can be listened to via their YouTube or Spotify link. It is more than worth it.......

Nice find. I can't imagine Maurice Chevalier doing a Beatles song. That should be quite entertaining Smile

Michael, just listen to the old man sing about his Le sous-marin vert and you will probably recognize the song

PS And do not ask me, why the French lyricist coloured the contraption green instead of yellow! Smile
