The "Yazoo-Delta Railroad" appears in a number of blues songs as the "Yellow Dog Railroad". According to W.C. Handy, locals assigned the words "Yellow Dog" to the letters Y.D. on the freight trains that they saw.
In 1919, Handy republished this song as "Yellow Dog Blues", under which name it achieved moderate success.
