Sheet music of this song on publication credited Kellette and "Jaan Kenbrovin", which was a pseudonym for Kendis, Brockman and Vincent - all of whom were under contract to other publishers when this song appeared.
The work originally appeared as an interpolated song in "The Passing Show of 1918", which ran at the Winter Garden Theatre from July 25, 1918 through November 9, 1918. We have not established whether the song appeared from the beginning of the run or whether it was introduced later.
For unclear reasons, this song became the anthem for the West Ham United Football Club sometime between the 1920s and 1940s and remains so.
